Mission Statement for "Serial Killer Scavenger Hunt" "Trying to make a break in a town that doesn't want to give you a break." -Raul Contreras (to an L.A.P.D. officer) Movie making. I am attempting what is said to have a 95% failure rate. But I am not afraid.... After over a decades of working in the independent film world from Coast to Coast on films that have failed and have succeeded I have gained the experience and wisdom needed to make a successful film of my own. Serial Killer Scavenger Hunt will be that film...an expanded version of my short film. What is Serial Killer Scavenger Hunt about? It is a humorous and stylized, violent cinematic reaction against the "City of Lost Dreams". Our players have been beat down by realities of tinsel town and react violently at their frustration. This group of people around me here at Demented Entertainment are a bunch of talented hardworking people that have pursued the American Dream with our varied talents but never got the "break". We also have some that have "made it"...their generosity is allowing me to make such a large film for next to nothing. It is time to make our own break with this unique film. The Problem? Money...what else? The Plan...Raise $30,000 that is it.... $10,000 to the main Actors. $5,000 to Production. $5,000 for Gas and Food $5,000 for other Actors $5,000 for expenses and expendables. Why only $30,000? This movie has to be made either very expensive or very cheap. More money makes this film like every other struggling little independent film. This movie must be "taken" from Los Angeles with little or no money, then thrown back in Hollywood's face. We don't need millions of dollars to make a fun film. My crew will just be Lights, Camera and Sound. Basically a crew of 4 exercising their 1st Amendment rights and a lot of heart. This is a guerrilla filmmaking...or more like Ninja filmmaking. I have visions of a the Crew dressed in black being dropped off in our hippie bus in the darkness, reflector boards and c-stands strapped to their backs. We slip in and out of amazing locations flicking on our battery powered lights and me yelling "Action." When? This Fall. I am hoping to have this film financed by the end of July...August at the latest. This will allow me a couple of months solid Pre-Production time with principal photography lasting a month. The Serial Killer Scavenger Hunt short cost a mere $400.00....there is no reason I can't make a feature version for $30,000. The biggest concern is feeding the cast and crew, keeping all of our donated vehicles full of gas and finishing the film in a timely fashion. If I did this film solely as a guerrilla film it would take me at least a year to do. That is just not acceptable or wise. To be certain, filming this time around is going to be more expensive and bigger in scope. Knowing this I cut down my expenses by crafting the story around free assets at my disposal: Locations, vehicles, and equipment. Failure? The only failure is by talking and not doing. When I get the camera I can begin second unit filming...the plan is to begin principal photography in the fall. What if the money doesn't show? The show goes on...that is the point. I will begin filming anyway....it will take a year instead of a month...only fate can stop me. A documentary film crew will follow all the action, humor and drama. Additional funds? They would be used exclusively for marketing, if we reach a large dollar figure, it will go to hiring a PR person to push this unique guerrrilla film. We are going to make a $1,000,000 action film for $30,000. If possible I would spend 3 times the amount of our budget simply on promotion of that fact. Thanks for reading. If you have any questions or want to invest don't hesitate to ask. Sincerely, Raul Contreras raul@dementedentertainment.com |
